Pollock is an important species of COD family, which is a cold water fish, widely distributed in the northern Pacific Ocean. From the southern part of Japan to the north along the eastern coast of Russia, the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands, the southern coast of Alaska, and the west coast of Canada to the central California and Faroe Islands of the United States. The Bering Sea and the Okhotsk Sea are two important fishing grounds. Pollock is a kind of economic fish with high catch. The highest annual yield is more than 6 million tons. In 1998, the catch was 4.094 million tons, of which Russia and the United States accounted for 86.1%.
