Russia's Pollock industry re applies for MSC certification of 270000 tons
Recently, the Pollock catchers Association (PCA) of Russia has launched a new round of MSC certification assessment. The object of this assessment is the narrow cod fishery in the navarinsky region of the West Bering Sea.
The PCA said the ultimate goal of this work will be to obtain MSc certification for all the Pollock fisheries in navarinsky, and the assessment is expected to be completed in June 2021.
In 2020, the catch quota (TAC) of Pollock in navalinsky area of West Bering Sea is about 390000 tons, and the estimated fishing capacity is about 275000 tons.
In 2015, the MSc certification of the fisheries in navalinsky region of the West Bering Sea in Russia was revoked because it failed to submit the public consultation report. Since then, haddock fishery in the sea of Okhotsk in Russia (60% of TAC) began to apply for MSC certification, and obtained certification last year.
In 2020, the fishing quota of Russian Pollock will be 1.83 million tons, an increase of 1.33% over last year; the quota of MSC certified fishery in the sea of Okhotsk is about 1.06 million tons.
"Over the years, PCA has worked closely with other Russian stakeholders and its achievements in the fisheries improvement program (FIP) have been recognized by a team of third-party experts," commented camiel derichs, MSC's project development director. We wish PCA new progress in the independent assessment process.
